Avery spent the night.  This morning she was all excited to go kayaking again!  This time we brought her paddle.  We were out for almost two hours.  Every time I started to head home something caught our eye that we had to paddle over and check out.  Our hope was to see baby Geese up close, but they must have been napping.  Every so often I would rock the kayak so she would get used to that as it’s only a matter of time before we encounter a boat wake.  She developed enough confidence to lean way over the side and splash in the water.  A shower and a nap.  Nicole’s birthday party!  In case you’re wondering:  The rubber Fox on the beach seem to be doing a pretty good job of keeping the geese off my lawn.  Two families ventured onto the lawn this morning, but a few rocks took care of that and they’ve not returned.

Tim, in all his black, piercings and chains Goth glory walking down the sidewalk in Uptown with a yellow Seasame Street Babies diaper bag on one hip and Avery on the other.  Oh, to have had the camera handy!  This after I honked at and chased a car like Tim’s around several blocks to finally catch up with it in a gas station parking lot only to find it wasn’t Tim!

I’m having a terrible time with Geese in my yard.  They tolerate the dogs and the dogs tolerate them.  Because we spend so much time in the yard, I’m hesitant to use a chemical deterrent.  Grape Kool-Aid was a waste of time and effort.  The research I did online told me Geese don’t like Coyotes, Fox or Alligators.  At Cabella’s I found some life size rubber fox that are meant for archery practice.  I’ve put one on the shore and three in the yard.  If this doesn’t work, I think I’ll hire someone.  I’m thinking a few seasons of professional goose control can’t cost much, if any, more than a paintball gun and might have a higher success rate.  And perhaps just for kicks I’ll take that rubber alligator that usually rides on the bow of my boat and set it down on the beach.  Fox scattered around the yard didn’t work.  I’ve left one in the middle of the lawn because it torments the dogs.  The other three are on the beach, which seems to work.  For now.

Eww, rough day at the office, though it ended a little bit better than it started, which isn’t saying much.  To add insult to injury, it rained at the worst possible time this afternoon.  I don’t think dinner came close to repaying Gabriel for his time and the use of his tractor.  All’s well that ends well; sunset on the dock bench, glass of red wine in hand and a Dear Man to keep me warm.

It was dreary and threatening rain when we left for our walk this morning.  I gave some thought to doing a shorter four mile out-and-back but decided to keep going when we reached the two mile mark.  We got rained on about the last two miles.  It became a thunderstorm complete with downpour just as we were getting home.  Yesterday the house smelled like baking bread, today wet dog.  Ick!

Just as I was leaving for Navarre, the Electrician called wanting to come over and fix those outlets on the north porch that have never worked.  No way I was going to turn that one down!  Mr.B has been wanting to meet the infamous Electrician.
