Barefoot, thirtysomething Amber shows up at the door of a Norfolk cottage that the Smarts are renting for the summer. Amber doesn’t know them, but she talks her way in, telling lies, and stays for dinner. Eve, an author, thinks Amber is a student her husband is sleeping with. Michael, an English professor, knows only that her car broke down. Daughter Astrid, age 12, thinks she’s her mother’s friend. Son Magnus, 17, thinks she’s an angel. Gradually, Amber insinuates herself into the family. Dazzled by her seeming exoticism, the Smarts begin to examine the accidents of their lives under the searing lens of Amber’s perceptions. When Eve finally banishes her from the cottage, Amber disappears from their sight, but not, as they find when they return home to London, from their profoundly altered lives.
Heart Healthy
64 minutes, 4.07 miles: Worked up a sweat with 1.37 miles of PodRunner followed by Grey’s Anatomy; “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer”.
Three Hundred Twenty Days Until Christmas!
I started my Christmas 2007 shopping today with a bargain I just couldn’t pass up. The trick will be to remember where I’ve stashed it.
Twenty Nine
Caribou Coffee #29. I’ve been real tempted to buy their stock. It’s not doing so well right now, but Starbuck’s and Peet’s were very good to me, so why not Caribou?
Suntan Soon!
I never took a vacation this winter. You can tell by the paleness of my skin. The pale is really getting on my nerves. My Doctors at Mayo have me terrified of a tanning bed. Today I ordered a propane heater for my deck. That should make suntan season come sooner to my house. I can’t wait!
Weekend WrapUp
Saturday: Mr.B was busy with the screwdriver; the dining room chairs, crib, shower. We made two huge pots of beef stroganoff. Sunday: Church. Walk. Hot coco while roasting chocolate marshmallows. Chess; I lost both games.
Two In One
80 minutes, 4.25 miles and Grey’s Anatomy “Much Too Much” and “Owner of a Lonely Heart” on the treadmill. To SuperAmerica and back was another 128 minutes and 5.03 miles. Enough to compensate for my lazy yesterday.
A Picnic. Of Sorts.
I dusted off the picnic basket and had dinner with Ellie and Jim tonight.
